Marina Shakour Haber: Author & Speaker

My NativeAdVice:

Bio:

Marina Shakour Haber is an author and speaker whose life’s purpose is to open people’s minds to the untapped wealth and abundance waiting to be discovered when they break away from restricting beliefs. She wrote Dream A Better Dream to help people transform the negativity of our society into one of hope and great new potential.

How did you get into the industry?

I decided to write my spiritual book, Dream A Better Dream, after Donald Trump won the presidential election in 2016. I believe that this is the time for change of a spiritual nature. Mankind has been doing the same things over and over again with the same results and now, we are again at crossroads in history. For real change to occur, there has to be greater knowledge as to who we are and what got us here. Therefore, I have decided to share my knowledge and beliefs about positive thinking and its influence on our collective well-being and the future of our planet.

Any emerging industry trends?

Spirituality has gained momentum in the corporate as well as advertising world. Over the last 2 decades, the book market has opened up to both spiritual and motivational subjects, from self-help to yoga, meditation, chakras and auras, life after death and other metaphysical information. However, this has also become a trend in marketing and advertising industries as they are addressing consumers’ spiritual needs, not only physical ones. In corporations, there are more and more motivational speakers that help employees feel differently about themselves so that they can be more productive.

Any industry opportunities or challenges?

I have noticed that there are as many life coaches out there is sand on the beach. On one hand that is indicative of a growing market on the other though, I wonder how many coaches the market can actually handle. I also feel very uncomfortable about the fact that there are so many out there without any qualifications or previous training that set out to help people that may already be fragile. Price points for coaching services are all over the map, again hinting at the loose business structure.

Inspiration for the business idea, and your vision for the Business?

Originally, I had an enlightenment center in mind where there would be classes and seminars offered, much like a university. My concept was to have teachers that would educate on all aspects of spirituality, new thinking and positive mindsets. There would be healers, psychics and mediums available for personal consults. Most importantly, the aim would be to have great minds meet to exchange ideas, be open to different thinking, look for alternative methods and approaches.

My business concept is to make myself better known, or rather known at all, so that I can become a motivational, inspirational speaker. I would then sell my book(s) and services at those occasions as well.

What's next for the Business in the near future?

I am planning to give a Ted Talk by the end of this year, have engaged a PR company to assist me in getting greater publicity in the media for me, and I am contacting venues for workshops.

Your key initiatives for the success of the Business?

I have enrolled in Toastmasters as well as another group, Unforgettable Speaker, to help me evolve as a speaker. I have chosen a PR firm to represent me so that I can get more publicity. I am actively working on my social media marketing platform.

Your most difficult moment at the Business? (and what did you learn?)

I have known that it would be difficult as I am completely unknown. It will take time and perseverance to break through and I have accepted that I cannot do it alone.

Ideal experience for a customer/client?

People have always looked for greater meaning in their lives, even more so in troubling times. As we have entered an age where we are more disconnected through our electronic devises than ever before, people are concerned with their emotional and spiritual well-being. The age-old questions of “What is the meaning and purpose of my life?” and “How do I find fulfillment?” are business opportunities to help people find what they are looking for. There is a real need for the human connection in an increasingly automated and isolating environment. So, the ideal experience would be to feel uplifted, fulfilled and loved. People would benefit from learning techniques to help and heal themselves.

How do you motivate others?

I motivate by doing, by being an example. I never ask anybody to do something I would ask of myself. I treat others as I would like to be treated myself–with respect and dignity. I always have time to listen to people’s problems. I always forgive their mistakes, but I do ask for honesty and transparency. I motivate through love, kindness and compassion as well as paying them the salaries they deserve because they have earned it. I allow them to act and think independently and encourage open dialogue.

Career advice to those in your industry?

Always be open to new ideas and to change. Set goals, follow through and enjoy the process. Ask for help and advice, reach out to others who have more knowledge than you do. Do not fear failure, accept it and move on. Say to yourself, “Next” and move on. Learn from it but do not be defeated by it. It’s just an opportunity for growth and a sign that you have possibly have to tweak something. Assess and analyze your results so that you can make adjustments. Be patient with yourself and do not put yourself down, do not doubt or fear. Say to yourself, “I am successful, a winner…” Lift yourself up and keep on going. And above all, be grateful, be positive and enjoy what you’re doing.

My NativeAdVantage:

What do I do best?

I motivate people to be the best they can be; sensitive to people’s feelings, emotional states and issues, listen to them and give courage and inspiration; problem solver; defender of the under-dog

What makes me the best version of myself?

Determination, Can Do Attitude and Resilience

I never give up and I have absolute fundamental faith that I will make it again and again. I may change my approaches when I see that I’m not getting anywhere, but I am steadfast in my belief that I will succeed. It is a knowing, rather than hoping or believing, that all is well which moves me forward through all my roadblocks and allows me to focus on the process to reach my goal.

What are my aspirations?

A.    PERSONAL: It is my purpose to open people’s minds to the untapped wealth and abundance waiting to be discovered when they break away from restricting, fear-based beliefs. It is my desire to transform the negativity of people’s habitual thinking into positive, love-based thoughts, thus shifting our collective consciousness.

B.    BUSINESS: I am working on my career as a motivational speaker, Positive Thought Trainer, and author of more inspirational, spiritual books. I envision a Center for Enlightened Thinking, where people, such as scientist, physicians, mediums, philosophers, spiritualists, politicians and evolved thinkers, would meet to exchange ideas how to improve our society, heal the planet and save the environment.

My Biggest Success?

I started a health-care staffing company from scratch and made it into one of the leaders in the industry in the greater NY/NJ area. At its height, my company employed about 1800 nurses. I also pride myself at being a very good cook with a great variety of cuisines. I consider it to be a milestone that I have written a spiritual book and published it last year. I have started on an entirely new path in my life which includes public speaking, social media marketing, contacting the media, reaching out to prospects.

My Most Challenging Moment?

My husband and I went through very trying times after he lost his business to tax issues. Not only did we lose our income, but he was no longer able or permitted to start again in the same industry. After a few financially painful failures, I suggested that I should start a new company resuming his previous business. Money was tight, but this was our last resort to make it again. Although there would be great hurdles to overcome, the greatest advantage was knowledge–knowing the business structure, knowing nurses and hospital personnel and executives. It was very tough as I was basically a one woman show – I worked around the clock as I was on call 24-7 for the first 4 years, contacted nurses by phone and mail to re-register again, met with hospitals while I also had to take care of my two young children. But I persevered. I knew without a doubt that I would make it and I did. I learnt to trust my instincts, to stand up for my beliefs and to have the courage to believe in my visions of a better future.

My Motto?

I AM. I am successful, I am an influencer. I can do that. Thank you, God, for all your help at all times in my life. Thank you for the difficulties and the good times. I am grateful.

My Favorite People/Role Models?

My favorite business role model would be Jack Canfield as he helps people to help others while he has made it into a successful business. A personal role model would be Mahatma Gandhi as he had the courage to peacefully stand up for the rights of people, for justice and equality.

My Favorite Places/Destinations?

I have always loved Paris. I love its architecture, art, cuisine, fashion and life-style, as in sitting in cafes, sipping coffee and enjoying the beauty of the moment. I love its grandness and its intimacy.

My Favorite Products/Objects?

I would say that my mac is now the love of my life. I have written my book on it, created my media campaigns and use it daily to enrich my knowledge. I love my other Apple products as well such as my I-pads and I-phone. Their ease of use in combination with their chic look and class appeal to me most.

My Current Passions?

I enjoy reading spiritual books that help me to understand life better, which in turn helps me to do more for others. I also enjoy attending my Toastmasters’ meetings, preparing and giving speeches as well as performing other functions. I like the mental challenge of researching new subjects, presenting effectively and seeing different aspects of myself. I realize that I enjoy writing and expressing myself.
