Bio:

As founding partner of one of the top public relations agencies in Texas, Karen Henry takes a comprehensive approach to public relations overseeing The PR Boutique’s Houston office to fulfill client goals and objectives. A respected PR expert, she brings a wealth of experience in luxury brands, real estate, business, retail, entertainment and the restaurant and hospitality industries.  Her strengths lie in building trusted client relationships, spearheading imaginative media campaigns that garner successful media placements. Henry has served on the University of Texas College of Fine Arts Advisory Council. She has affiliations with Greater Houston Partnership, Greater Houston Conventions and Visitors Bureau, Houston Country Club, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and American Heart Association. Henry attended the University of Texas at Austin majoring in communications, holding her bachelor’s degree in theatre from Lamar University.

How did you get into the industry?

My first job out of college was with an advertising and PR agency in Beaumont, Texas. I was hooked at that time.

Any emerging industry trends?

We look at trends as tropes that are redefined. Communication is timeless yet the vehicles and audiences are constantly shifting. We have a dynamic approach that strategizes what’s new and fresh to achieve optimal results. Emerging industry trends are the power of the blogger. They are third party, objective sources that people look to and even rely on for suggestions for just about everything – fashion, food, interior design.  

Any industry opportunities or challenges?

Something we've noticed internally is that with new and evolving technology comes the occasional roadblock. There are plenty of ways to schedule posts ahead of time, but none let you schedule and post to Instagram ahead of time. Staying current on all the social media platforms out there is necessary in order for us to recommend what's right for each client and where they need to have a presence.

Inspiration for the business idea, and your vision for the Business?

For years, I operated alone, but realized with the expertise of another PR professional, we would be able to offer more services, so we combined our companies and formed The PR Boutique – two unique PR firms under one roof. I also wanted my name off the title so it could continue with someone else at the helm. It is working.

What's next for the Business in the near future?

I just appointed a Director of Accounts and a designated Social Media Manager to meet the needs of our clients.

Your key initiatives for the success of the Business?

Happy clients and happy employees make our world go around. When we work together towards a common goal in a positive atmosphere there is nothing that can stop us. The energy and excitement for our clients brand is contagious and it translates from point A to point Z.

Your most difficult moment at the Business? (and what did you learn?)

Dissolving a partnership amiably.

Ideal experience for a customer/client?

We pride ourselves on developing close and lasting relationships with our clients, offering a personalized alternative to large firms. We are committed to working in collaboration with our clients to define success, measure effectiveness and further the client’s brand mission utilizing appropriate channels. Our comprehensive approach puts you in the spotlight by leveraging branding, media relations, event marketing, community development and social networking. The goal is to craft complete, consistent and compelling brands that create desire and build strong emotional connections at every possible touch point.

How do you motivate others?

Give employees respect, let them know when they do good work but kindly let them know when they are not meeting expectations. And, always support them in front of clients.

Career advice to those in your industry?

I think providing guided growth is essential to helping my employees advance their careers. I give them enough freedom to make their own decisions for our clients but enough support that they never feel like they are on their own.
