How did you get onto the path of being a life coach and a mentor?

Professor R. W. Ross (Ashland, Kentucky) trained me at the age of 12 to teach tennis to children.  I was immediately hooked on developing talent.

As Lt. Governor of Key Clubs International, I created scores of new high school clubs throughout Kentucky and Tennessee. I was immediately hooked on service.

Fast forward a decade after leaving the pro tennis tour in the early 1970’s, I settled in Columbus, Ohio and operated an indoor tennis club where I coached professional tennis players, as well as juniors as young as four years old.  It was there that my junior tennis program began to grow. 

Concerned about the mental side of tennis, I privately retained three PhD professors at The Ohio State University to facilitate an 18-month research project for children ages 4-8 entitled, Maximize Super Learning in Children.  Here I discovered five intangible markers that every child and adult possessed.  They are Self-discipline, Concentration, Optimism, Relaxation and Enjoyment.  It was these markers that formed an acronym called S.C.O.R.E.® and high levels triggered natural bodily chemicals.  Once these chemicals flowed into the bloodstream there was a significant change in each child’s overall attitude and super learning swiftly arrived. With 1000 trained instructors new tools, tips and techniques were created to bolster each component of S.C.O.R.E.® that elevated each student’s performance.

The kids tennis program grew and soon we had 350 locations globally with over 250,000 children enrolled.  Parents seminars entitled, Coach Your Kid To Greatness were soon conducted and from these interactions, The S.C.O.R.E.® System spread to 50 industries, 10 professional sports, every amateur sport, as well as parenting, relationships, academics, personal finance, wellness and more.

Since 1971 I’ve been creating life blueprints for other people. It began with designing winning blueprints for all my professional tennis clients and eventually this proven plan for successful living spread to life and business clients as well.

Coaching has been my passion and my life for over 50 years.

Any emerging industry trends?

The overall mindset of the world today needs extreme positivity.  Our population reflects chaos thinking, divisiveness, depression, anxiety, doubt, apathy, indecision, and worry.   The world now wants and demands an expert and only an expert to guide them with concrete, proven solutions and answers for life’s challenges. In addition, people want both speed and quality in elevating and changing their life, business, or sport and it is these two characteristics that definitely can be in conflict.  A Success Sherpa™ with a proven track record is in demand.

Any industry opportunities or challenges?

The Internet provides a plethora of new platforms and opportunities to distribute content.  Narrow focused podcasts, audible books, e-courses, virtual reality, live streaming, and other tools are helping mobile people in real time and the opportunities for a global customer base has never been easier.  The main challenge is distinguishing oneself in a crowded, competitive marketplace.  However, this is where an expert thrives.

Inspiration for the business idea, and your vision for the Business?

My vision was and has been to help people be their genuine, authentic best self.  My client’s success is my only mission.  My mother and mentor (Professor R. W. Ross) set me on a course of giving with the knowledge that I reap what I sow.

What's next for the Business in the near future?

Distributing my newest book: The Blueprint: A Proven Plan For Successful Living and The Jim Fannin Show podcast are our top priorities.

Additionally, we have created S.C.O.R.E.® Success System based programs for multiple niches (parenting, relationships, tennis, golf, leadership, sales, etc.) and are distributing this content in a wide variety of ways with the Internet and mobile phone as our main focal point.

Your key initiatives for the success of the Business?

We continue to develop, retain and activate our client/customer base to be “word-of-mouth” evangelists for our brand.   We inspire individuals and groups to improve their quality of life, business or sport at a price they can afford.

Your most difficult moment as a coach? (and what did you learn?)

Guiding several clients through cancer and eventually helping their transition to the afterlife.  These emotional experiences increased my compassion and  patience, as well as respect and reverence for life itself.

Ideal experience for a client?

Taking ownership for one’s actions and inactions and celebrating the many successes.  Each client has their own customized life blueprint complete with specific tools and techniques for manifestation.  Each are held accountable and are guided to a place they either believe they can’t reach or refuse to reach because of fear or anxiety. My clients know who they are and where they want to go in life and it’s this memorable experience that will last their lifetime.

How do you motivate others?

Most of my clients are already highly motivated. As a Success Sherpa and ZoneCoach®, my clients know that I will help them find the best success pathway for their experience, knowledge, and time constraints.  Once they can see their positive future complete with an illuminated pathway leading to its fruition, it is this vision that wakes them up in the morning and tucks them into bed at night.

Career advice to those in your industry?

Hone your craft as an expert and keep learning about the wants, needs and desires of your clients. In addition, walk the walk.  Live your message, as the world will eventually rebuff a hypocrite or imposter

Plus, my awesome, dearly departed parents would expect nothing less than my best.

Give away (through my foundation) and or sell my S.C.O.R.E.® System to as many humans as possible, then transition and leave it in perpetuity.

Raising two children into productive, world-class decision making adults.

My Most Challenging Moment?

There are two..

On November 8, 1962 my best friend Brian Judd (brother to Naomi Judd of the famous singing duo, The Judd’s) died.  It was the worst day of my life. That day I felt a real or perceived presence call to me, “Never have a bad day again!”  To honor my best friend I committed to become that positive person.  As of this writing, it has been over 20,000 days of extreme positivity in the face of the many adverse challenges I’ve faced.

On my mother’s deathbed as I held her in my arms, she implored me to take S.C.O.R.E.® to the masses.  After I promised (“I will Mom”), she died in my arms.  This deathbed promise challenged my core essence and it fuels all my remaining days.
