Leanne Shear: Co-Founder, President & Head Trainer of Uplift Studios

Founder of Uplift Studios. Always an athlete, Leanne played competitive basketball through high school and ran Division I Varsity Cross Country and Track in college. Once she moved to NYC, along with weight training, biking, circuits, yoga and swimming, she became a part of New York Road Runners and started racing and eventually running marathons, with a PR of 3:29. Her love of athletics and fitness was the seed for the founding of Uplift, a women-only fitness studio that combines group classes and personal training with events, workshops and retreats, all of which are the underpinnings for the strong community aspect Uplift fosters, and how it helps empower women in all aspects of their lives. In her spare time, Leanne blogs at

What’s Your NativeAdVantage:

What do you do best?

Work with people, especially women, using fitness as a means to help them in any and all other aspects of their lives.

What makes you the best?

I can see most situations involving people with almost X-Ray vision. It's probably because I'm very intuitive, but I usually know how to perceive what any client or friend or random person is going through or needs and respond accordingly. I think this boils down to being a really good listener, because whether they say it in words or not, everyone projects what she is thinking or needs at any given time. I've built a business on picking up on that and as a result, Uplift embodies a place where empathy and a fun, welcoming atmosphere is combined with strength and empowerment.

What are your aspirations?

To continue to grow Uplift as a lifestyle brand. There are thousands of fitness studios and places to work out in the world at large. Where Uplift is different is that while we offer really intense strength workouts, and people certainly do walk in the doors for our fitness component, they stay because of all of the other things we offer: author readings, nutrition and meditation workshops, career, finance, wine education and dating seminars and day trips and retreats. Fitness is the means to an amazing end(s) for us, which is the perfect combination of all the things I love in life.

Positive people. I don't mean the people who are in la-la land and totally unrealistic, but people who generally see the brighter side of life. It's amazing how many people walk around with a frown on their faces and default to negativity as soon as they open their mouths. Negativity is a poison I am always trying to find an antidote for.

Buffalo, NY, which is where I  was born and raised and still proudly call "home"

New York City, which has been my home for the last fifteen years and where I feel most at home

Paris, where I felt so at home that I moved there for five months to live by myself and write a book even through prior to going I didn't speak a word of French!

I am not a shopper or products person, but I love experiences so--an amazing meal, a great bottle (or two!) of wine, and workout gear, especially Lole, Lululemon and Athleta, since I wear it every day of my life!

Spending as much time as possible with my amazing friends and family; reading; writing; running; learning

Chef Deborah Racicot: Head of Pastry at Narcissa

Deborah comes to Narcissa after time spent in some of New York’s most beloved restaurants including Gramercy Tavern, Gotham Bar and Grill and Savoy. She also has experience working alongside some of the nation’s most notable chefs such as Alfred Portale, Marcus Sameulsson and Terrance Brennan. Her stunning and inventive desserts served at Narcissa mirror John Fraser’s seasonal and vegetable-centric cuisine. With seasonality always in mind and the opportunity to utilize produce from Narcissa’s very own farm, Locusts-on-Hudson, Deborah often explores ingredients and flavors not often found on a dessert menu like fennel cheesecakes, curried banana and green strawberries.

What’s Your NativeAdVantage:

What do you do best?

I would say that making Ice Cream is what I do best

What makes you the best?

I love to create great interesting flavors; I believe that texturally my ice cream is extremely smooth, creamy and decadent.

What are your aspirations?

My aspirations are to open my own pastry shop in the city which provides people with a great selection of sweets, that include cakes, to cookies, to ice creams and even more.

It is important that what I will be doing is modern and artistic, as well as providing people with pastries that are different than all the other pastry shops and bakeries in the city.

It is all about the little details that make us different than the rest.

Anything related to the arts.

I have always been into the arts from drawing to photography.

I love pastry and cooking, but what drew me to pastry was the artistry.

People eat with their eyes, so it is important to me to create my dishes so they first of all taste great, and also just as important , it must be visually enticing.

Narcissa, André Balazs and Michelin-starred chef John Fraser’s restaurant nestled next to the The Standard’s townhouse entrance, marries the clean flavors and impeccably-sourced ingredients of California cuisine with new techniques of roasting, rotisserie and slow-cooking. Featuring seasonal, local and organic produce from André Balazs’ Hudson Valley farm, Locusts on Hudson, the healthy, multi-layered American menu offers both simplicity and sophistication. The intimate neighborhood restaurant offers two dining rooms, one featuring a large open kitchen and chef counter, the other overlooking a charming private garden, allowing for al fresco dining in warmer months.

Crystal O'Connor: Founder and CEO of Moxie Entrepreneur

Crystal O'Connor, CEO of the education based and marketing media company Moxie Entrepreneur, international speaker, and now, the celeb-adored author responsible for millions in client sales over the past twenty years.

Already, her fresh business insights have helped thousands of companies, big and small, to find financial success and balance, and she’s not slowing down anytime soon.  In 2015, Crystal launched “Unleash Your Moxie: A Girls Guide to Becoming Fiercely Bold, Incredibly Happy, & Practically Superhuman.”  The motivational read quickly generated buzz, where advocates like ABC’s Shark Tank’s Barbara Corcoran declared it “the ultimate ‘how to’ book for female entrepreneurs.”  Drawing upon her own journey as a homeless teenager turned successful entrepreneur, Crystal’s book is inspiring and transforming the lives of high-profile business owners and fledgling entrepreneurs alike.

Over the past twenty years, Crystal has developed razor-sharp systems to help her clients obtain financial independence and balance.  Whether working with small business owners or established entrepreneurs, Crystal’s fresh sales strategies and immense marketing knowledge consistently result in more customers, more revenue, and work to generate multiple income streams. Her clientele ranges from personal trainers to caterers, from event planners to midwives, and everything in-between.

There is absolutely no field she can’t tackle. Crystal’s modern approach to “business coaching” leverages the mastery of product development, strategic planning, email marketing, and goal setting, so entrepreneurs may obtain the financial independence and freedom that led them to pursue an entrepreneurial life path to begin with. “Entrepreneurial overwhelm” sets in when owners get caught working for their business when rather, it is their business that should be working for them. Via her proprietary programs, such as The Moxie Money Making Blueprint System and Rapid Cash Infusions, and of course her book, “Unleash Your Moxie,” Crystal has been able to continuously guide clients towards financial success, life balance, and control. Her extensive experience and track record give her an advantage over any other program.

What's your Native AdVantage:

What do you do best?

I get started when others are still thinking about the HOW or over-analyzing details.   I know the resistance that comes when starting something new naturally diminishes when the ball gets rolling. Whether it's writing, putting up a website or bringing an idea to fruition I'm best at ignoring the enormity of the project and whittling it down to actionable steps fully aware of how answers appear during the process of starting.

What makes you the best?

I'm not afraid to look at the bigger picture and I'm not afraid of taking risks while using my intuition to guide my decisions while getting there.

What are your aspirations?

To dramatically increase the income and potential of thousands of Women dreaming of being successful Entrepreneurs/ business owners but lack the confidence and awareness to make it happen.  To guide them on the journey of leaving a legacy of success.  Strategically creating more opportunities for them and their families. To teach them the technical, marketing,  and mindset skillsets to make huge leaps in their business and income.

Do what the majority isn't doing. Instead of focusing all your energy getting  job, saving for years and doing with less than until retirement....  teach yourself how to expand, grow and elevate your life and income.  It's a skill you can't unlearn.

L.T. Brady: Founder of Style Saver

L.T. Brady, a native New Yorker, has built a career in the digital and cosmetic industries.  Earning her stripes at Scripps Networks Interactive and Viacom, she became a phenom in Marketing, Branding, and Sales.

Melding her degrees in Studio Art and Women’s Studies, L.T. launched her own beauty brand – PISTOL polish ( - in 2012 with the intention to enfranchise women through the power of cosmetics.  Originally a subscription-based business, it quickly developed into direct distribution to salons, spas, and retailers due to high demand.

Her latest product, Style Saver, launched on Kickstarter and was fully funded within 2 hours.  Currently ranked as the 8th most popular fashion project sitewide, her Kickstarter campaign continues to gain attention. (

What’s Your NativeAdVantage:

What do you do best?

I feel that a woman’s time is her most precious resource.  It’s the one thing we all want more of and are unable to buy.  I like to find small ways to improve women’s everyday lives by quickening existing beauty routines.  I’m the best at doing something once and doing it right – I don’t like to touch something twice – and I apply that philosophy to my beauty and brand innovations.

What makes you the best?

I love life. It sounds ridiculous, but I am so laser focused on my friends, family, and experiences that I get angry wasting time on things that aren’t important, like hair and makeup.  But, I also know that I feel my best when I’m put together.  Thus why I love tricks to speed up the beauty process and make it last!

What are your aspirations?

I truly want to empower women and give them the tools to empower themselves.  The beauty industry is a fascinating field – the juxtaposition of telling a woman how she should look and what is beautiful paired with the true power that comes from within when you look and feel your best is an enigma to me.  I’m working to shift the focus from what you should look like as dictated by society to how you should look your best if that makes you feel awesome.

Azad Maqsudi

My name is Azad Maqsudi, I recently graduated from Seton Hall University with a Bachelors in Marketing from the Stillman School of Business. Since graduating from Seton Hall I currently help manage a small time floral boutique in my hometown of Montville, New Jersey. I’m currently looking to branch out into a marketing/advertising career full of opportunity and the chance to truly make a difference on this Earth in some way or another. I’m creative in my thinking process, humorous but most of all a hard worker.

What do I do best?

A tough question but personally I’ve always loved the idea of leading others. During my time at Seton Hall, I had numerous classes that required squad captains to be accountable and further more drive the idea and decisions we make as a group and I would always volunteer for that position.

What makes me the best?

My charisma, my charm, my ability to connect with others on a personal level make me the best for what I love to do. I’m also extremely creative and try to incorporate that in everything I do.

What are my passions?

My passions are include music, everything from country music, indie, rap and spoken word. My taste stretches far and wide! I am a huge fan of film and television, anything Stanley Kubrick touched was a masterpiece in my eyes, I also make my own short films in my spare time. Art, producing it, and learning about famous artists and movements. Everyone from Picasso, Van Gogh, Michelangelo to Andy Warhol and Basquiat are huge influences on the way I draw and paint.

“I am an excitable person who only understands life lyrically, musically, in whom feelings are much stronger as reason. I am so thirsty for the marvelous that only the marvelous has power over me. Anything I can not transform into something marvelous, I let go. Reality doesn't impress me. I only believe in intoxication, in ecstasy, and when ordinary life shackles me, I escape, one way or another. No more walls.”  - Anais Nin

Heroes of mine, artists, directors, fashion designers, successful businessmen and visionaries, former presidents, dictators, leaders during times of crisis. Honorable mentions: My family, girlfriend, my dog and friends.

Anywhere that is vibrant in one way or another, a certain atmosphere that gives off some kind of feeling, direction and culture is somewhere I’d like to be. NYC, Toronto and Vancouver.

My iPhone, my laptop, my camera, my music, Twitter, Spotify, SoundCloud, PlayStation, and hair gel.

Gwen Reich

My name is Gwen Reich, I’m a South Jersey native and Philadelphian usual. For the last 3 years I’ve been attending university at SUNY Binghamton and in just two weeks I’ll have completed two B.A.s. Though my passion is working with my hands, I have never really wanted a job creating art. So, I am looking for employment and leaving plenty of time for school work and exploring nature (as seen above).

What's Your NativeAdVantage:

What do you do best?

I think I am a very good listener and communicator and people feel very comfortable around me. This is something I take pride in.

What makes you the best?

I don’t believe I am the best, but I think I am generally open to criticism, if delivered correctly, which definitely makes me better.

What are your passions?

As I said above, my passion is working with my hands. In high school I had the opportunity to dabble in glassblowing, which was probably the most amazing thing I have ever experienced. I loved, and still do love, the concept of sweating for something. Also, sculptural arts are incredibly enticing to me because thereafter there is this three-dimensional object which was previously merely a construct of your thoughts.

I’m not sure what this means but my favorite flowers are Ranunculus.

“So far, so good.”

Matter. So does friendship.

I’ve always enjoyed the city-life Philadelphia has to offer, but I also love the shore, and honestly where I am in school now (when it’s not snowing, which it did yesterday). I could never really decide on what I liked or where my favorite place was, I guess it depends on my mood.

I like certain fair-trade brands a lot. I believe Dr Bronner’s and Lush Cosmetics have built their corporations on policies that matter.

One of her passions is mindfulness which she’s been writing about on her blog at Simple Mindfulness ( for the past few years.  While her blog focuses on using mindfulness to create a happier life for all, her work in the corporate world incorporates mindfulness to help entrepreneurs and business leaders grow and develop companies that support the people and values behind them.

Paige lives in the mountains outside of Colorado Springs, CO with her husband, three amazing kids and their big cats at their mountain lion sanctuary.
