Adrien Finkel: Author of "My Naked Truth" & Photographer, writer, producer

My NativeAdVantage:

Adrien Finkel is the author of My Naked Truth, as well as a photographer, writer, and producer based in Los Angeles, California. When not producing Funny or Die, Adrien devotes her time to My Naked Truth Project, a visual catalog of quotes, personal confessions, and advice shared with her by friends and strangers. She has a degree in dramatic performance and a French cooking certification.

What do I do best?

I am pretty good at sharing and being honest about who I am. I am quick to tell someone what I like and what I don’t.  I have never been someone who feels like keeping a secret. I am an open book and I think its a quality that tends to open people up who are talking with me. Because of this quality, My Naked Truth exists.

What makes me the best version of myself?

Having loving and supportive friends around me makes me the best version of myself.  Sometimes it’s hard to look at myself objectively, so I find it so rewarding to spend time with people who love and appreciate so many parts of who I am. And it feels so good to give the love right back!

What are my aspirations?

I really feel happy at the present moment continuing to explore with the My Naked Truth Project, while working in television, and baking cakes for fun. But of course I have so much more that I would love to accomplish in the coming years. On a personal level I know I want children and really look forward the day timing feels right. Professionally, I would love to have my own business. I dream of running a production company that focuses on female driven and diverse stories, while providing a space for me to continue the My Naked Truth Project. And to take a total left turn from there, I do dream of a little brick-and-mortar bakery that sells my cakes and confections.

My Biggest Success?

I think my biggest success is all the work I have done in getting to know myself. At 33 years old I finally feel really in tune and proud of who I am. I am also proud to always consider where I can grow and change for the better, even when it’s tough to face.  I think if I hadn’t done that work there would be no book and there would be no television career.  Not even cakes!

My Most Challenging Moment?

Last year I quit my job of five years without much of a plan. I figured I would find something quickly, but before I knew it seven months had breezed by. It was so incredibly hard for me to wake up each morning and not know where to be. Instead of using that time to focus on my hobbies, I spent most of it beating up on myself and wallowing in the misery of being unemployed. At moments, I became convinced that there was nothing else waiting for me in life.  And honestly, it wasn’t until I did some tough work by seeking help for depression, re-defining my goals and dreams, and finding joy in my daily life, that a wonderful job eventually appeared and a tiny cake business blossomed.

My Motto?

“You are allowed to be both a masterpiece and a work in progress simultaneously.” - Sophia Bush

(PS: My motto is always subject to change as LIFE happens)

My Favorite People/Role Models?

Right now I am really inspired by Jen Gotch, who is the Founder and CEO of the company Ban.Do.  Her company sells clothing, accessories, and paper goods that promote positivity and fun.  Jen, herself, is bipolar and deals with really dark moments of depression.  As Ban.Do has grown Jen has become really present on instagram, sharing her most authentic self, good days and bad. She walks us through her anxiety attacks and she explains what her sad and happy moments really feel like. These are such scary things to reveal, but everyone is truly in love with her living her truth every day. It makes me want to buy her stuff and also continue to live life as authentically as possible.

My Favorite Places/Destinations?

I have lived in New York City on and off and it remains to be the place I feel most alive and grounded.  As for true travel destinations that I LOVE, I would say Big Sur, Montreal, New Orleans, the Maya Riviera in Mexico, and Barcelona.

My Favorite Products/Objects?

Well I would definitely be lying if I didn’t say I was obsessed with my cell phone, which is likely to my detriment. That aside, specific things that make me happy are:  Coava Coffee Beans, TOCCA Perfume in “Stella”, the Almond Croissant at Dominique Ansel Bakery, and the MY NAKED TRUTH book, of course!

My Current Passions?

I am really passionate about comedy and storytelling. I love seeing local shows at night and bringing friends to see performers that I am really excited about.  I love baking cakes and treats for friends. There is nothing more satisfying to me than feeding people that I love. It never gets old.  I love photography. Whether it’s doing a photoshoot on my professional camera or snapping an iPhone shot of a friend who is standing in the perfect light, I could do it all day.  I love words and books and learning more about myself and others through reading.  I am also passionate about my friendships. I work hard to maintain them because there is a very specific group of people in my life who I have been through the trenches with and life would be way less colorful without them.
