Bio:

Jeff Sauer is a Digital Marketing Consultant, Speaker and Educator. Jeff is an expert in Google Analytics and Google AdWords and provides thought leadership at Jeffalytics.com. As an adjunct instructor at the University of St. Thomas, Jeff created a digital marketing certificate program that offers a complete picture of digital marketing, from acquisition of customers to measurement of results. In 2016, PPC Hero named Jeff a top 25 most influential PPC Expert. Brand names such as Gerber, James Hardie, Berkshire Hathaway, Medtronic and Nestlé have relied on Jeff's advice to guide their online marketing programs. As a digital nomad, Jeff resides in hotels and AirBNBs around the world and shares his experiences at Jeffsetter.com.  

What do I do best?

Over the years, I have learned that my best quality is twofold. The first is that I take the time to understand subjects that interest me with extreme depth of knowledge. I will spend years learning topics that interest me and work to have a complete understanding, night and day.

Once I understand something fully, I then turn around and teach the subject in a way that makes learning for others more accessible. What can take me years to fully understand and process, I help others learn more quickly through my in-person and online training programs.

Over the past 7 years, my training programs have reached over 12,000 individuals, and my goal is to reach 1 million students.

What makes me the best version of myself?

The best quality I have is not giving up in the face of resistance, and refusing to take the easy route to achieve results. To get where I am today, I have had to try hundreds of approaches, tactics and strategies to see what works. 95% of the things I try fail miserably, while the 5% that work produce outsized results. If I were to give up easily, then I wouldn’t be where I am today.

What are my aspirations?

My personal aspirations are to remain financially independent, a good husband and seek adventure whenever possible. My wife and I put everything we owned into a 5x5 foot storage unit and have been traveling full-time since 2015. During this time, we have visited 40+ countries on 5 continents, and strengthened our relationship through shared experience and deeper understanding of each other.

My business aspirations are to have my training programs reach 1 million marketers, analysts and business owners and help them grow their professional skills and business acumen to previously un-imagined levels. Reaching this goal will mean that my business is both a personal and commercial success.

My Biggest Success?

My biggest success is that I have achieved over 50% of my life goals, well before I ever imagined they were achievable. For a larger background, I wrote a list of life goals when I was ~21 years old, hoping I would achieve them at some point. Beyond that, my biggest success is being able to achieve things that everyone told me were impossible. Having a successful business. Traveling the world. Financial independence. Having a wonderful loving wife. Living out of a suitcase and growing my personal and professional skills. Speaking in front of crowds of over 1,000 people at a time. Teaching at a university. Nobody (including myself) believed these were possible for me as little as 5 years ago. Now they are just my reality.

My Most Challenging Moment?

My most challenging moment was to leave my comfortable job where I was a business owner, VP of marketing, and widely respected in my industry to pursue my own take at entrepreneurship. My business partners were shocked at my decision. Others second-guessed my sanity.

And for the first 3 years, I looked like a crazy person as I got my business off the ground. Now that I’m past that point, I can say it was the best decision I’ve ever made professionally.

My Motto?

I’d say it is one of two sayings.

1)    Say yes to everything.

2)    Create your own luck.

Most people see successful people and assume they got lucky. What they don’t see is the years of work it took to become an overnight success.

My Favorite People/Role Models?

My biggest role model is my father, Jim Sauer. He taught me how to be successful in business and has been my mentor through the years. I also owe a lot to Harlan Austin, Dave Woodbeck, Dan Derosier and Scott Pearson, all of whom have been business partners. As for professional role models, I have always admired Rand Fishkin and Avinash Kaushik as online marketers and personalities in their respective industries. They set a high bar for inspiring their audiences, and I’m honored to follow in their footsteps, even if only a little.

My Favorite Places/Destinations?

New Zealand is great. My wife and I drove a camper-van from the south island to Auckland and enjoyed every minute of it. There is more natural beauty in 1 KM here than 10 square KM anywhere else in the world.

Bologna, Italy, Cape Town, Great Ocean Road in Australia. Ile Des Pins in New Caledonia. Mendoza, Argentina. It’s hard to choose a place, but these are some of my favorites experienced during full-time travel since 2015.

My Favorite Products/Objects?

The Sony Alpha series cameras are great for photos. Apple computers and phones work great for me. Anything by Peak Design (including their backpacks).

But honestly, I am not big into possessions. In order to travel the world full time, you need to let go of materiality – since everything you own weighs you down (literally). So I like to have the best, most lightweight version of any technology I use.

My Current Passions?

Teaching, cooking classes with my wife, travel, photography, sharing my knowledge and building an audience in the world of online marketing.

I’m fortunate to have built a life and career that is centered around my passions. So there is plenty of time to do what I love and love what I do.
