Catie Macken: Fitness professional & mindfulness/wellness expert

My NativeAdVantage:

Catie Macken is a fitness professional, mindfulness and wellness expert, travel junkie, health-a-holic, and lover of life based in the Boston area.  She has traveled all over the world training, teaching, leading retreats and sharing the practices of Yoga, AcroYoga, and mindfulness.  In Boston, you can also find her rocking classes at Flywheel sports, Everybody Fights, YogaWorks and giving keynote speeches on mindfulness and compassionate leadership in corporate settings.

What do I do best?

Live authentically.  When it comes to business and my personal life, I show up one hundred percent true to myself.  What you see is what you get.  I feel strongly that when you show up just as you are, it inspires and encourages others to show up as they are, without fear of judgment.  This takes unwavering courage and vulnerability, and sets you up for authentic human connection.

What makes me the best version of myself?

What are my aspirations?

My biggest goal in life and what drives my decisions both personally and professionally is to share my knowledge and inspire the world.  I strive to positively impact every person I encounter.

Honorable mention (the short list):  Never stop learning or become complacent.   Write Books.  Travel as much as possible.  Own wellness retreat centers internationally.

My Biggest Success?

As soon as something is out of balance in my life, I have no choice but to make a change to re-align with my purpose which brought me to two big risks.  First leaving my government job in Minnesota and moving to Boston and pursue my dream at the time of working in the fitness industry.  And secondly, leaving my corporate fitness career and becoming self employed which has allowed me to pursue my even BIGGER dreams within the wellness field.

My Most Challenging Moment?

My mother passed away from cancer in November 2016.  Navigating the loss of a parent is an interesting and difficult situation and this experience catalysed a period of necessary healing that I did not realize was present. Childhood trauma including sexual assault and repressed pain and fear were pushed to the surface and I spent much of 2017 processing, healing, and re-integrating myself.  As challenging and painful as it was in the moment, it was also one of the most beautiful and joyful times in my life.  My whole being and existence expanded.  I feel more freedom, love, and connection with my Self than I ever had before.  The work of the soul is rarely easy or comfortable, but it is the most rewarding work we can do for ourselves in this lifetime.

My Motto?

I choose a mantra for each year based on my current evolution or learning.  In 2018, it has been “I surrender, I trust, I believe.”

My Favorite People/Role Models?

I have a LONG list of favorite people and they are scattered all over the world.  I am grateful for the amazing, inspiring, badass humans that exist within my Universe, and I could never name them all here but I’m sending them a little magic right now.  You know who you are, loves.

Role Models: my dad, he’s worked hard in his lifetime and always been a source of love and stability for me through many challenging times. Michelle Obama, obvious answer.  She embodies outstanding qualities as a leader, woman, and human.

My Favorite Places/Destinations?

Bali, hands down favorite place.  India, Greece, Boston, NYC, Italy, Nantucket, my parent’s house in Florida sitting poolside with a glass of bubbles.

My Favorite Products/Objects?

I use a myriad of different products, and like to try new things all the time.  If you have a favorite I should try, I want to know about it!

My favorite objects... my tarot deck, my passport, and a great pair of sunglasses.

My Current Passions?

I’m developing a podcast, Intuitive Science, with a dear friend and colleague, Rachele Pojednic.  I feel very strongly about what we are offering and can’t wait to share our thoughts, ideas, and laughter with everyone!  Stay tuned for that launch towards the end of May (check my instagram or website for more information).

I love to learn, so I’m always excited to dive into new subjects.  I’m enrolled in a Herbalism training over the next eight months and also, an intuition development course starting in August.
Forever passions (the short list): Traveling, yoga, reading, dancing like an absolute maniac, singing and playing music, movement, mindfulness, magic, nature, radical self inquiry, champagne, authentic human connection, love, healing, writing, impactful conversation over incredible food.
