Shanna Tyler: RYT 200 Yoga Teacher, self-love blogger & Founder, the Self Soul Sport community

My NativeAdVantage:

Shanna Tyler is a born and raised Jersey girl with a passion for self-love, yoga, and fitness. Currently based in the NYC metro area, Shanna wears many hats, including a RYT200 (from the Yoga Alliance), a self-love blogger published on, and the founder of the Self Soul Sport community. Her community is a group of women who talk about loving self, nurturing soul, and living sport in monthly open discussions. Shanna can be found keeping it real on her Instagram feed (@shannatyler) and blogging for her weekly Sunday posts on

What do I do best?

This question really has me thinking! What I do best is share my story and encourage people to share their own. What I do can be described as storytelling with a mix of just putting it all out there and being really real. Since I was in elementary school, I have been compiling stories of my life. Whether it was through journaling, writing, or coming up with many different blogs.

Not only until I created Shanna Tyler did I notice I also have a gift in my storytelling to encourage others to share their own. When I shared my story either on the blog or on an IG post, people responded in earnest with their own story. Currently, I’ve decided to fully embrace this skill that resonates in both my personal and business life.

What makes me the best version of myself?

My passion has gotten me where I am today. Whether it’s teaching a yoga class, writing a blog post, engaging on my Instagram, or hosting a Self Soul Sport event, I’m passionate about each and every activity that it’s in my calendar. I love to connect with others and this quality has been shown throughout everything I do!

What are my aspirations?

Personally, I want to build a firm foundation in NYC. I’ve moved two times in the past three months, and now kicking it at home with my parents. I want a space to call my own in this city! Another one is have a pet. I’ve been wanting either a dog or cat for years now. I never grew up with one, and I love the unconditional relationship that many others have with theirs. I’d love to have a pet to come home to in my own space in NYC.

Professionally, I’m finally going for my Life Coaching Certification and applying for the Foundational Course for The Institute for Life Coaching. This new venture will allow me to fully manifest all of my hopes/dreams in connecting specifically with girlbosses and entrepreneurs across all cities and encouraging them on their journey, whether it’s in their triumphs or struggles.

My Biggest Success?

My biggest success was finally getting to answering this Q&A. It’s been on my to-do list for so long! I’ve loved reading past interviews, and I’m so happy to be featured!

My Most Challenging Moment?

I’ve been most challenged in life by my own experience with mental health. I was working a job that I could barely get out of bed to go to, chainsmoking boxes of cigarretes, and drinking bottles of alcohol to remedy my depression. I was most challenged by crying for help to my close family and friends, and seeking treatment in an inpatient clinic where I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder. That moment has made me the person I am today. The person who encourages others to tell their stories and the person who offers her story to uplift others.

My Motto?

Love self, nurture soul, and live sport is my mantra. Self Soul SportTM is a community I founded in 2016 and is based on this personal mantra. It’s a community of women who meet to share their own stories in monthly events in NYC and I also host a podcast where I feature my own story, along with interview fellow girlbosses on their journey.

My Favorite People/Role Models?

My favorite person in the entire world is my mom. My mom will forever be the person I speak to, vent to, cry to, and laugh to or at. She’s invested in my business; she’s listened to my crazy idea that I’m going to be an entrepreneur when all she knows is the 9-5. Most of all, she’s had my back emotionally no matter what.

My role model is Marie Forleo. I’m currently enrolled in her B-School program and it’s affirmed my belief that she’s just a Superwoman. She keeps it real and has been one of the most amazing women I’ve seen in this industry who’s doing it right.

My Favorite Places/Destinations?

My favorite destination is any place in NYC that has matcha with almond milk. Bonus if they sweeten it for me.

My Favorite Products/Objects?

My favorite object is a monogram necklace I invested in to congratulate myself for paying off my credit card debt. It’s from Vale Jewelry and it’s a personalized font of my first name.

My Current Passions?

My current passion is the podcast world. I love listening to podcasts, including Marie Forleo’s. I also love hosting my own podcast, The Self Soul Sport Podcast. I believe it’s such an awesome format tonot only share information, but take in information. Another current passion is Chipotle’s sofrita tacos. It is a necessity at least once a week, or twice!

Most importantly, my passion has and will always be encouraging women to love themselves, nurture their souls, and live their sports. I want to spread the word amongst women that they can and they will!
