Bjork Ostrom: Founder, Pinch of Yum, Food Blogger Pro, & WP Tasty

My NativeAdVantage:

Bjork Ostrom is the founder of Food Blogger Pro – a membership website that teaches food bloggers how to start, grow, and monetize their blogs. After helping his wife Lindsay get started with her food blog in 2010, Bjork started to wonder: is it possible to make a living from this blog? In 2011, he began publicly sharing the traffic and income that he and his wife Lindsay were generating from their blog, Pinch of Yum, in monthly income reports as a way to document their progress and share their findings with other food bloggers. These income reports have been a unique resource for many bloggers across all niches as they have ultimately documented how the couple took their site from a $20/month hobby to a 6-figure business. Today, Bjork continues to run Food Blogger Pro while also developing two new software tools, WP Tasty and Nutrifox. Bjork’s favorite things in life are watching Office reruns with Lindsay, all things tech, rainy days, Sage the dog, and a Juicy Lucy with fries.

What do I do best?

Stick with it!

The #1 most important thing that we’ve implemented over the past eight years is our “stick with it” mindset. If you dedicate yourself to showing up every day and improving every day then you’re virtually guaranteed to find some form of success. So, to put it simply, I’m really good at showing up every day.

What makes me the best version of myself?

Every day I spent 30-60 minutes reading books that help inform the creative and business decisions that I’m making each day. These books have helped to mold who I am and the way that I view the world. Some of my favorite authors are Seth Godin, Danel Pink, James Altucher, Dave Ramsey, Gary Vaynerchuk and Tony Robbins.

What are my aspirations?

Personally, I strive to be someone who is kind, compassionate, and passionate. I want to be someone who makes others feel loved and accepted.

Business wise, I strive to create businesses that are financially stable and do a good job of serving the needs of our customers. The best most recently example of that is when we created a WordPress Recipe Plugin called Tasty Recipes. The product continues to sell well, but more than the sales I’m proud of how intentional we are in serving offering the best possible customer service.

My Biggest Success?

I’m proud of the fact that my wife Lindsay and I care more about the success of our relationship than the success of our businesses. Family first!

My Most Challenging Moment?

Lindsay and I spent a year in the Philippines working at an orphanage. It was a challenging year, as we were launching Food Blogger Pro while Lindsay was also working full-time at a school associated with the orphanage.

The experienced helped to shape who we are in really big way. You can read about what it was like for us by checking out the Living Abroad archive on Pinch of Yum.

My Motto?

I’ll break that down so it makes more sense:

We all know what this is. The number one. That was easy. Let’s pair that up with the second character in the sequence:

One percent. Still pretty easy. So far, so good. Let’s add the last character in the sequence:

That last character is the mathematical symbol for infinity. All together those three characters read as “one percent infinity.”

One percent infinity means improving just a little bit (1%), everyday, forever (∞)

My Favorite People/Role Models?

My Favorite Places/Destinations?

The island of Kauai in Hawaii. It’s magical.

My Favorite Products/Objects?

My Kindle Voyage and iPhone X. The iPhone X is just plain fun. It’s such a delight to use. I love my Kindle because it makes discovering new books, and therefore learning new things, so incredibly easy.

My Current Passions?

We’re from Minnesota, so comfy and cozy is an art form, and it provides a nice contrast with the fast paced work that we’re doing throughout the day.
