Michael Sotos: Owner, Rogue Valley Strength & Conditioning

My NativeAdVantage:

Bio:

My name is Michael Sotos and I have 13 years of experience in the fitness industry. I am the owner of Rogue Valley Strength & Conditioning, which is based out of Ashland, Oregon. I recently started a new company, Uncanny Strength & Conditioning which offers online superhero training. I currently train clients at Ashland Anytime Fitness and I have a small functional fitness studio located in the Hersey Street Business Park. I also offer online fitness coaching which allows me to help you, no matter where you live in the world. I work with a diverse range of clients including athletes, post rehab, youth, and senior citizens. I enjoy working with post rehab clients and clients in need of specialized programs due to medical conditions. In my opinion, there is nothing more rewarding than to see people improve their quality of life and return to the activities they love.

If you are looking for a fitness coach to help you reach your superhuman potential through a comprehensive workout plan, please take me under consideration.  I also train in several martial arts, which include Jeet Kune Do (JKD), Aikido, Filipino Martial Arts (Eskrima-Kali-Arnis), and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. When appropriate, I blend drills from these martial arts into client's programs. In my free time, my interests include outdoor activities such as hiking and stand-up paddle boarding, watching movies (especially sci-fi and superhero), and reading (fitness related, business related, philosophy, and comic books).

I have a fascination with superheroes and you'll find my office and fitness studio decorated with posters and collectibles. My three favorite superheroes in no particular order of importance are Wolverine, Batman, and Daredevil.

What do I do best?

I am able to connect with most people I meet, no matter what their age or background. I work well with all different age groups. I’m also a very positive and optimistic person which I think rubs off on the people that I am around. I think people pick up on that and it’s the kind of environment they want to be in.

What makes me the best version of myself?

Having an optimistic and positive attitude has helped me get where I am. I’ve always believed that if I put in the hard work and effort, I could have a successful fitness business. Whatever I put my mind too, I can achieve if I put in the maximum effort.

What are my aspirations?

I would like to grow my online fitness training program. It is Superhero themed because I’ve always loved superheroes and comic books. I want to help people “unleash their inner superhero” and live to their full potential. Growing my online business will allow me to meet new people from around the world and give me the flexibility to travel more while still being able to work. From a personal standpoint, I’d love to travel more with my family. There is a lot of this planet that I still need to explore.

My Biggest Success?

I feel that my greatest accomplishment has been building my own fitness business from scratch with only a notion that I wanted to help people. I wanted to help people live healthy and be able to enjoy their life to the fullest. I had many people doubt me, and at times, I even doubted myself, but I’m still here helping people get super fit. I’m excited to expand into the online fitness world.

My Most Challenging Moment?

My most difficult decision was giving up my job in payroll and billing at a counseling agency, and heading to my hometown to begin a career in personal training. Believe me, I am much happier for it. I now get to live my passion each day and I always look forward to going to work.

My Motto?

You either succeed or you learn! I used to fear trying new things because I might fail. Now I know that I will either succeed or I can learn from failure and do things better the next time. You have to take chances if you want to be successful. There’s no doubt about it.

My Favorite People/Role Models?

I’ve had a lot of role models in my life including my parents. They always taught me to be honest and kind to people. One of my best friends growing up had a Father who was a Teacher who spent the Summer’s organizing activities for us. He really instilled in us the importance of living an active lifestyle and it’s probably part of the reason that I am in the fitness business now. As far as role models in the industry, I love following people like Dan John, Mike Boyle, Gray Cook, Mike Roberston, Eric Cressey, Nick Tumminello, and Jon Goodman. There are many more but those are some of the people that stand out and I really appreciate their teachings.

My Favorite Places/Destinations?)

Living in Oregon, we get our fair share of rain in the Winter, so I really enjoy escaping to the desert. It’s such a contrast to where I live. I enjoy traveling to the Palm Springs area and also Arizona. For a quick getaway, I love going to Bend in Central Oregon. There are so many outdoor activities to choose from and the Cascade mountains are amazing.

My Favorite Products/Objects?

Honestly, I don’t have any specific fitness equipment that I favor. I love to make use of a wide variety of equipment and tools. It keeps the workouts more interesting and it’s good to utilize different movement patterns.

My Current Passions?

My current passion is to build my Online Superhero Training program at uncannystrength.com. I’m really excited to see where it goes and how many people I can help. I wanted to do something more than just strength and conditioning, so I’ve added a mental component and self-defense training as part of the program.  There is also fun stuff included in the higher level packages where people can help create their very own comic Superhero avatar and logo.
