Jessica Wong: Director of Public Relations, The Peninsula Beverly Hills

My NativeAdVantage:

Jessica Wong is the Director of Public Relations at the award-winning Peninsula Beverly Hills. She joined the Forbes Five-star rated hotel in 2014 as Public Relations Manager, and after just one year was promoted to Director of Public Relations, and given the additional responsibility of overseeing the luxury hotel’s marketing, public relations, hotel events and e-commerce teams. Prior to joining The Peninsula Beverly Hills, Jessica worked with The Communications Store (TCS), a leading PR agency in London, England. As a member of the agency’s Lifestyle division she supported account teams working across food, travel, wellness and luxury lifestyle.

What do I do best?

I’m a people person, so I love working in teams. I think the best ideas are a product of collaboration. Lucky for me, working in a hotel means that I get to interact with a variety of departments.

What makes me the best version of myself?

Resilience – you hear ‘no’ a lot in PR so you quickly learn to bounce back. I don’t take it personally, move on quickly but learn from it.

What are my aspirations?

Personal: I want to be a better cook and crack baking!

Business: There is so much that goes into a hotel operation – I want to spend more time with the departments to better understand the operation so I can support via marketing communications.

My Biggest Success?

Being asked to speak at USC Annenberg Career Conference on a public relations panel. It was surreal to be back on campus but not as a student.

My Most Challenging Moment?

I was born and raised in Toronto so when it came time for college, I made the decision to move to Los Angeles and attend USC. It was a huge step outside my comfort zone and completely eye-opening. I’ve since lived in Switzerland and London before moving back to Los Angeles – I’m not sure I would have travelled so much if I hadn’t taken that initial step.

My Motto?

Don’t stress the could haves. If it should have, it would have.

My Favorite People/Role Models?

Everyone here at The Peninsula Beverly Hills! I have never encountered so many hardworking, passionate and dedicated individuals. It’s a big family here and we’re hugely supportive of each other.

My Favorite Places/Destinations?

The place I last visited always becomes my favorite place! I recently went to Charleston and just fell in love with the city. It’s so beautiful and has so much character. For somewhere abroad, I love Japan. It’s so beautiful, full of culture and the food is extraordinary.

My Favorite Products/Objects?

Definitely my Kindle – I love to read and it makes it so easy. I also still use a paper calendar and I bring it with me everywhere. It’s a little old school but I love seeing my week laid out on paper.

My Current Passions?

Cooking and dining out – I’m so lucky to be in LA!
