Emily Lewis: Rowing Instructor & Hip Hop Dance Instructor

My NativeAdVantage:

Emily Lewis is a music industry professional by day, and a hip hop dance choreographer and rowing instructor by night. Emily teaches rowing at Current Fitness located on Canal St. She brings her passion for music, dance, and fitness into each and every class. Her energy and enthusiasm for hip-hop inspires her students to find their rhythm by connecting body, mind and soul. As a music industry professional, her playlists are expertly curated to energize and push students past their wildest limits. Emily loves to encourage her students to be their best, most authentic selves. She believes that you can achieve anything with determination, drive, and the right playlist.

What do I do best?

Dive in. No matter what I am doing, or what I want to do, I always make sure that I give it my all.  I always strive to be the most prepared person in the room. When it comes to teaching fitness and dance classes, I make sure that I put time and energy into curating my playlists and practicing my choreography. Hard work pays off.

What makes me the best version of myself?

My willingness to say yes. Keeping an open mind has allowed me to embrace some of the best experiences of my life. Everyone is busy. We all have people to see, places to go, and chores to be done. But I always try to say yes when new opportunities come my way. If we keep doing the same things with the same people, we will never grow. I like to surround myself with new people, new adventures and new challenges. That’s always the best way to see personal growth.

What are my aspirations?

To reach new heights professionally and physically. I work full time at Sony Music and I enjoy my corporate job just as much as I enjoy my instructing job. I strive to be the best I can be in both settings. I hope to grow my fitness brand, while also reaching my professional goals within the music industry.

My Biggest Success?

Landing my job at Sony Music. I moved to New York City with the dream to work in the music industry. I was so driven, so passionate, and so hard working when it came to applying for jobs, that when I finally was offered the job I just knew that I truly achieved something great. That experience also reassured me that dreams can become realities if you are willing to work hard enough. That mentality drives me to keep going every day.

My Most Challenging Moment?

While landing my full-time job at Sony was a success, deciding to move to New York City before I had a job was also incredibly challenging. I moved to the city immediately after graduating college. I had no job but knew I wanted to work in the music industry. I took a part-time gig as a hostess to tide me over until I found a full-time position. I went to every networking event in the city, talked to everyone I could, and interviewed for everything. I soon landed my job at Sony and started teaching dance and fitness on the side. Needless to say, moving to this city was the scariest, yet most rewarding decision I ever made.

My Motto?

“You always think you can’t until you do.” I think self-doubt is a very natural human experience. Strength comes from going for what you want, regardless of the potential outcome. I now experience opportunities I didn’t even know existed simply because I put myself out there and welcome new experiences. Put yourself in the situation to be successful!

My Favorite People/Role Models?

Maybe it sounds corny, but I’d have to say my parents. They both are creative, driven, and thoughtful. I have honestly learned so much about work ethic, passion, and focus from them. They are both such determined, intellectual yet creative people I aspire to be like them.

My Favorite Places/Destinations?

Some of my favorite international places are Paris, London, and Barcelona. I think everyone should travel. Growth happens when we step outside of our comfort zones, but a favorite place also doesn’t need to be somewhere far away. I am so lucky to live in New York City. This city inspires me to stay driven, set my goals higher, and hustle harder.

My Favorite Products/Objects?

I would have to say my Ninja Blender. If you haven’t tried meal prepping your breakfast smoothies, you haven’t lived life! As someone who’s not much of a morning person, I am obsessed with making a protein smoothie at night, sticking it in the fridge, and then having it ready to go in the morning while I get ready for the day.

My Current Passions?

Music is always my number one passion. I truly believe you can achieve anything with determination, drive, and the right playlist.
