Shelby Albo: Personal Trainer & Founder, TravelFitLove.com

My NativeAdVantage:

Bio:

Shelby Albo grew up dancing and moved to Sydney Australia after college to pursue the career.  Once she returned to the States, she immediately went into the 'corporate world', joining the travel industry.  She also continued her passion of dance and movement by training at boutique fitness studios in Manhattan and receiving her personal training certification. As an active traveler, Shelby incorporates new workouts through each destination. Having visited over 30 countries, she combines her passions of travel and fitness by and creating TravelFitLove.com. Whether its a new class or an active tour experience, Shelby wants to encourage people to stay active while traveling. Follow her sweaty adventures at @TravelFitLove

What do I do best?

Balance – whether it is traveling to another city, to the other side of the world, teaching fitness classes, or working my full time job, I juggle a lot and manage to balance it all with my personal and social life. I think it is important to find something you love and make time for it.  I love networking and matchmaking. This is the traveler in me – I am not afraid to go up to a stranger and strike up a conversation or give a compliment.  I am all about uplifting and empowering one another.  With that said, I love motivating and inspiring people to have a healthy lifestyle, no matter where they are in the world – I especially love doing this through my blog, TravelFitLove.com.

What makes me the best version of myself?

My “go-getter” drive – I thrive on staying busy (teaching, working, traveling, being social) and put my heart into something to make it happen.  A friend recently said to me “you are the biggest hustler that I know”.  That actually felt good to hear, and know my drive is not unnoticed. I am also a very independent person.  If I hadn’t taken a few risks in my early 20s (moving to the other side of the world at 22), my life would not be where it is today.

I am also a very outgoing person. So, say hi if you see me! Introduce yourself! Let’s conquer the world together 😊

What are my aspirations?

I am so lucky to turn my passions into my professions.  It is not something I always had and within the past year, I am really able to combine both aspects of my life. I want to help people stay active while they travel. Whether it is by checking out a new studio in that city, booking them a bike tour instead of a bus tour, or calling them at 4am to take advantage of the hotel gym, I want to be with them on their journey (literally).

My Biggest Success?

Wow – I feel like I am only starting in my career and I can’t wait to see where TravelFitLove.com goes!

One of the best things I did was study abroad in Australia. My 6 week program just wasn’t enough time for me so after college, I moved to Sydney. I met a guy in the USA six weeks before moving there but I knew I still had to go – this was an experience for me.  I pursued my dance career and taught pilates reformer, which introduced me to the fitness world.  The guy and I stayed in touch and when I returned to the USA to renew my VISA, I decided to move to NYC and give the relationship a try. I began working in group travel and now work in tourism specifically for Australia and the South Pacific. If I had not studied abroad, or moved there, I would not be working for this company. At that guy… he’s now my husband <3

My Most Challenging Moment?

I had been working corporate for 7 years and teaching fitness in the evenings.  I wanted more balance in my life and time for more things I am passionate about.  Last year I decided to leave my full time company and begin working for them as an independent contractor.  There were things I became nervous about and challenges to face by becoming my own boss but it has been the best professional decision I made.  Now, my challenge is to take TravelFitLove to the next level and begin working one on one with traveling clients.  I am a certified personal trainer (and studying for that was a challenge too!), TRX certified, and instruct at a few boutique studios in Manhattan (when I am not traveling).  It’s been a challenge to recognize that this is what I want to do – there are so many people out there that want to bring you down…  But for every one of those, there are 3 other people cheering you on!

My Motto?

I am a true believer that everything happens for a reason. It sounds cheesy but I know when I put something out in the Universe, the energy (both positive and negative) comes back to me.

Also, you don’t need all the money in the world to see the world.  Travel doesn’t have to be exotic or luxurious. There are so many ways you can go beyond ‘home’ and experience other areas.

My Favorite People/Role Models?

There are so many of you! I am truly inspired by the woman out there that have encouraged me and believe in me. Why compete with one another when we would be stronger together?  I am also a part of a women’s networking group, Six Degrees Society that is all about connecting other “go-getters”.  I love that even if we don’t do the same thing, we might know someone that could help and we push each other in the best way possible.

My Favorite Places/Destinations?

Hahah well this is nearly impossible to answer for someone who has been to over 30 countries.… I may be biased but I think Australia is a destination for EVERYONE.  The active hiker, the beach goer, the wine drinker, the animal lover, it is such a great place to visit!! Some of my other favorite destinations include Argentina,  Costa Rica, Greece, Iceland, Hong Kong, South Africa, and the USA (Charleston, Nashville, and LA to name a few).

My Favorite Products/Objects?

I love my athleisure wear!! Terez has a great wicking legging and Belle Force Activewear takes be back to my ballerina days. I also love a great bag. Caraa Sport’s studio bag is a great accessory to take from the studio, to brunch to shopping. Go Dash Dot is also a great bag full of compartments and has a place for your yoga mat – this is great bag from the airplane to the gym!

My Current Passions?

I am so lucky to be working in two industries that I am so passionate about!    If I’m not planning a trip, a client’s trips, instructing or working out, I am probably hanging at home with my husband and puppy. I am always on the go so sometimes I just need an evening watching a guilty pleasure show and relaxing.
