Latasha McRae: Founder, Peeks Cosmetics

My NativeAdVantage:

Jersey born and raised Latasha McRae always knew she would become an entrepreneur some day. In holding firm to this dream, in 2001 she started pursuing her Associate's in Science for Film and Video Production at Full Sail University. Shortly after obtaining her degree, in 2003 Latasha fell sick and faced a near death experience restricting her to a coma for 3 weeks. It took 2 years for her to fully recover and redevelop speech and physical capabilities again. Instead of letting any of this hinder her, Latasha used this as motivation. She was determined to make her dream a reality. With the belief that everyone should look and feel beautiful, not limiting their selves to one personality, Latasha McRae founded Peeks Cosmetics. To Latasha, "Peeks" meant taking someone to a higher level, making them feel as beautiful on the outside as they are on the inside. Edgy, Classy, Sassy, Beautiful, Professional, Flirty, Gothic are a few looks that can be created with a combination of the products available.

What do you do best?

I encourage others to reach for their dreams and goals just like I did. Being a woman in business, it’s important to lift one another up, lift your self-esteem and share compassion for others.

What makes you the best?

I am hard working, determined, self-motivated, perfectionist, passionate and dedicated about what I want out of life and my company. The goals I set for myself help me reach to my fullest potential. I also continue to stay very humble, and take people and their situations into consideration to overall grow as a person and business woman.

What are your aspirations?

My personal goals are to continue to work hard and grow. My aspirations for Peeks Cosmetics is to have a store front and be known around the entire world.

Biggest Success?

My biggest success is not allowing my past trauma experience hinder me from keeping a positive outlook on life. Despite all I had to endure from being in a 3-week coma and hospitalized for 2 months, I managed to pick myself up and move on with my life with the help of loved ones. I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science with my degree in Business Management and was able to start Peeks Cosmetics. I have been building it from the ground up and I know it only goes up from here.

Most Challenging Moment?

Definitely moving away to another state was challenging. I used to live in New Jersey and I now reside in Florida. Leaving my friends and family behind was tough not only because they are my support system, but because of the doubts I had that I couldn’t make it without them and couldn’t run my own business. Since I moved to Florida, I have successfully beat those challenges and I have been able to take the best steps forward to start in the beauty industry and start Peeks Cosmetics.

When you think of the actual word “Peek” you think “high, on top or above”. Peeks Cosmetics motto is taking you to a higher level of beauty, making you feel beautiful on the outside as well on the inside.

Favorite People/Role Models?

Personal: My mother. She is smart, beautiful and a talented artist and hair stylist. She is also a fighter; she has been battling Lupus for over 20 years and she still has made sure she has taken care of myself and my brother. She taught and showed me no matter what obstacle life may throw at you, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel and to strive until I reached my goals.

Business: Taraji P. Henson who just like my mom, is a single mother and has made her way. She is smart, talented and beautiful and never gave up on her goals and dreams. Today she is still showing how strong she truly is by accomplishing her dreams and building her empire.

Favorite Places/Destinations?

Paris, France. I love the culture, architecture, food and the language. There is so much to see and do there, I absolutely cannot get enough of it!

Favorite Products/Objects?

My favorite product right now would be my line of liquid lipsticks called “Lip Blasters” – we call them lip blasters because they are mint-infused which is completely different from any liquid lipstick you see on the market. It’s not only healthy for you but it also leaves a semi-matte finish which is my favorite part.

Current Passions?

My passion is my business, makeup, beauty and fashion from a career perspective. My passion is what drives me to continue to build my brand and company and get the word out there. There can be affordable and healthy beauty products out there, and that’s what Peeks Cosmetics is all about. Personally, I love to travel and spend time with my family any chance I get!
