Christine Pepe: yoga teacher & music attorney

My NativeAdVantage:

Christine Pepe is a yoga teacher and music attorney in New York City.  She graduated from Boston College with a degree in Philosophy, and then continued on to graduate from Boston University School of Law.  As a yoga instructor, her goal is to make the asana (or physical) practice accessible to all body types and to weave into class elements of yogic philosophy.  Christine can often be found traveling to a far away land with her camera in hand.  Music has always been a big part of her life – so it is no surprise that as an attorney, she works to protect the rights of songwriters.  Her yoga classes always feature cool playlists.

What do you do best?

I believe my strength is my fearlessness and willingness to try new things. I hate being pigeonholed, and people seem to love to pigeonhole attorneys.  I hope to never lose the desire to expand my skills and potential and to pursue my passions.  Too many people are afraid of failing and of the judgment that comes with failure. Because of this, people simply do not try new things.

What makes you the best?

I pride myself on making yoga accessible to all body types.  Most people cannot put their legs behind their heads or even stand on their heads.  I want students to understand that they will have strengths and weaknesses in their practices  – you have to love your body and accept where you are at the present moment.  Your body will change in life and so will your yoga practice.  That being said, I like to teach an athletic style of vinyasa flow – so students will definitely be physically challenged.

What are your aspirations?

My husband and I have traveled the world and captured amazing photos.  I hope to publish a yoga and travel-inspired book and to have a similarly-themed exhibition.  I also want have a house near the beach someday.  I grew up going to the beach during summers – it just feels like where I was meant to be.

Biggest Success?

When I look back, sure, I can think of moments where I experienced a stereotypical success from societal standards (winning a game, getting promoted, publishing an article).  However, to be honest, I consider success living an authentic life, and to me, that means living with passion and remaining true to yourself.

Most Challenging Moment?

I’ve had moments where I needed to really pick myself up and garner strength from within to get out of a bad situation. You need to have confidence in your own strength to always protect yourself and change circumstances if that’s what will serve you best.

Favorite Motto?

The master has failed more times than the beginner has even tried.  This saying always reminds me to just go for it - failure truly is part of success.

Favorite People?

My parents are two of the greatest people on this earth. My husband.  Strong women who have done amazing creative things like Diane von Furstenberg and Kathryn Bigelow.  Albert Einstein and Steve Jobs for changing the world.  And all of my teachers and mentors that have supported me over the years.  Where would we be without our teachers  . . .

Favorite Places?

Venice is one of my favorite places in the world – truly magical.  Marrakech for its bright colors and frenetic energy.  Hoi An, Vietnam for the lanterns, Cao lầu, beaches and local people. My cozy apartment on the Upper West Side.

Favorite Products?

Bond No. 9 New York Fire Island Eau de Parfum

Current Passions?

In case you couldn’t guess, yoga, travel, photography and music.  Over the past few years, I’ve made cultural travel a priority.  In March 2016, I will be returning to India and then exploring Japan and Hong Kong.  Very fascinated with Eastern cultures.
