Lara Land: Level 2 authorized Ashtanga Yoga teacher

My NativeAdVantage:

Lara Land is an Level 2 authorized Ashtanga Yoga teacher with 18 years yoga experience. She has worked all over the world teaching yoga and mindful living and developing programs to heal and empower. In 2008-2009 Lara spent three months in post genocide Rwanda bringing yoga as healing to survivors, and from there went to India where she worked with HIV positive children bringing yoga and meditation to their treatment room. In June 2011 Lara opened Land Yoga, a ground floor Yoga, Arts, & Wellness Center in the heart of Harlem. Through Land she developed community programs such as Harlem Earth Day, Soulfest and Women Who Wow landing her recognition by The Wall Street Journal, the Daily News, & on Fox5. In 2015 she founded her own non-profit, Three and a Half Acres Yoga to inspire community healing and activism through yo-ga. THAY currently works with Harlem youth and local law enforcement inspiring connection through mindfulness practices. Lara has made ten trips to India to study with the Guru of the Ashtanga Yoga Method often bringing students with her there and on her Love Where You Land yoga retreats worldwide. She is a public speaker, spiritual coach and writer with recent contributions to the Huffington Post, Mantra Magazine, and New York Yoga + Life Magazine. She is currently working on her first book.

What do you do best?

I’m a fantastic intuitive healer.

What makes you the best?

I’ve committed my life to self-study with the goal of using my deep practices to better know myself and others.

What are your aspirations?

I look forward to growing the five major initiatives I’ve put in place these last five years: Land Yoga Arts and Wellness Center, Soulfest Yoga Festival, Love Where You Land Retreats, Three and a Half Acres Yoga Non-Profit, to releasing The Sanctuary on and publishing my first book.

Biggest Success?

My biggest success was getting my father through his coma this past year.

Most Challenging Moment?

I’ve had many challenges in my life which have forced me to question my practice and commitment to my path and each time I have come out stronger. Almost losing my father was definitely the most difficult, but each time I leave the comforts of the US for my annual 1-3 months of study in India there is always something or someone I am leaving. I lost my grandmother while in India, missed my dearest’s friend’s bachelorette, and been absent for countless holidays, birthdays, and other social engagements. Even when in the states, my promise to put practice first means early nights and earlier mornings. Like anyone, I have my moments when I feel misunderstood and wonder what it is all for. Fortunately I have something greater than that which is my discipline. It is the life rope which pulls me out of any challenge. I know if I just show up the why will appear and all the sweetness that comes with life long practice will be waiting.

Every great truth has an opposite that is equally true.

Favorite People/Role Models?

My teacher Sharath, my parents, my best friend Melissa, Einstein, and Bruce Springsteen.

Favorite Places/Destinations?

Everywhere I have ever gone has been amazing to and changed me. I love New York City where I reside and I give the greatest thanks to India which is birth to my practice and has welcomed me annually. I’m fascinated with traveling the world though. I took a group to Tulum, Mexico and became instantly in love. Next I’m running a retreat to Iceland ( and after that, who knows… I have a couple life-changing places in mind. I’m obsessed with tapping into the energy of a place and helping others to do the same and to take its healing and awakening sensations home with them. That is what we do on my trips, so you will see me heading to some high vibrational locations and I hope you will join me for the ride!

Favorite Products/Objects?

I’ve very into crystals right now, most of which I have gotten from Gaia Collective’s monthly MoonBox.

Current Passions?

Journaling and vision-booking. You can see or take my Train Your Brain course for more on that! ( Inspiring others through public speaking both as a keynote speaker and on panels with other creatives and healers. Empowering women and teens. Bringing people normally at odds together through yoga, meditation, and mindfulness which we do with my non-profit Three and a Half Acres. Planning super amazing retreats all over the world that use the spirit of the destination to inspire the experience and alter the traveler’s life forever!
