Don Kassner: Founder of ProctorU

My NativeAdVantage:

Bio:

Don Kassner founded ProctorU in 2008 to help colleges and universities serve the growing number of students learning online. ProctorU provides live student identity management and proctoring services to make online testing more secure. Its unique service allows higher education institutions to securely identify and test students anywhere.

With over 12 years of experience in higher education, Kassner has a deep understanding of the unique needs of distance education, having served as the former president of the online Andrew Jackson University from 2005 to 2010. Kassner also previously served on the faculty at San Jose State University where he taught economics.

Kassner is also an active member of accreditation site review teams for the Distance Education Accreditation Commission (DEAC) and evaluates how DEAC members and applicants meet the business based accreditation standards. An active member of the higher education and edtech community, Kassner and has presented at various educational conferences and events across the country and abroad such as events with the Online Learning Consortium, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce at the USDLA President’s Forum, Online Educa Berlin, the International Technology, Education & Development Conference, and the International Conference of Education, Research & Innovation. Kassner holds both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in economics from San Jose State University.

(ProctorU has online proctoring centers in Hoover, Ala.; Folsom, Calif.; Livermore, Calif.; and Gilbert, Ariz. The proctors pictured are seen working in the Hoover, Ala. proctoring center in September of 2015. )

What do you do best?

I value my ability to identify opportunities and have always had a curiosity and drive that has allowed me to take advantage of these moments and make strategic connections. I have found that sometimes all you need to do is shuffle around the pieces of a puzzle to gain amazing results!

What makes you the best?

I have an open mind and I am able to see things for what they are, rather than what I’d like them to be. This realistic view is what has made it possible ProctorU to fill a growing need that we identified in higher education.

Biggest success?

The biggest success I’ve had in business is ProctorU, hands down. However, the biggest success of my life are my two wonderful children.

What are your aspirations?

Personal: I hope to live a long and happy life. I would like to focus on enjoying time with my family and living in the moment.

Business: I strive to make ProctorU the greatest company it can be and an inspiring place to work.

Most challenging moment?

I view challenges as opportunities to make myself and ProctorU stronger. I expect that my most challenging opportunity is still to come.

(ProctorU mascot Woodward J. Procki spends a day in Railroad Park in downtown Birmingham, Ala. The park is approximately 15 miles from where ProctorU was founded in Hoover, Ala.)

Favorite Motto:

"Do the right things the right way, and you will have success.'

Favorite People:

 My family

Favorite Places:

Favorite Products:

I travel quite a bit, so I like anything that makes travel easier.

Current Passions:

I’m a big sports fan and closely follow the San Francisco 49ers and the San Francisco Giants.
