Tyler Scott: Founder, Hit House

Tyler Scott has belonged to traditional “fight camp” Muay Thai gyms for over ten years (and fought for Friday Night Fights with a record of 2-1). He noticed that these fight gyms could come across as intimidating to newbies.  Ty wanted to spread the sport of Muay Thai - it’s a really fun, challenging full-body workout that builds strength and increases stamina - to a larger crowd. Muay Thai is called the “art of eight limbs” - meaning that, in addition to all of the cool strikes you use in boxing, you can also kick, knee and elbow!

One of the main complaints he heard from clients and trainers was about the heavy bag - a traditional heavy bag swings back and forth, and strikes can really hurt. Thus Bishop was born! Tyler worked with Century Martial Arts to create Bishop, using the best properties of the four most popular heavy bags. Bishop is filled with foam and covered in sleek vinyl to decrease painful impact and prevent injury (and no bruises!). Bishop connects to the floor and ceiling and its utility technology prevents swinging - the bag simply snaps back, allowing even the most novice fighter to continue striking. Because of this, we are able to train with lightweight (and machine washable!) gloves. Bishop is exclusive to Hit House. Tyler created the class curriculum, combining his training experience with the discipline he learned playing football at University of Idaho and the light-heartedness he picked up studying drama at NYU (do you recognize him from any soap operas?). Come prepared to challenge yourself, sweat and smile (mostly at his dad jokes).

What do you love most about Your City?  New York is full of excitement and opportunity.  I love being exposed to endless diversity, talent and uniqueness.  It's also where I met my wife.

Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?

A morning shake of protein powder, almond butter and water is my go to.  Sauce on Rivington and Allen in LES is my favorite restaurant.

What are you doing at:

6:00 AM –  Making coffee.

10:00 AM -  Finished teaching the morning classes, catching up on emails and doing maintenance/cleaning the studio.

12:00 PM - Favorite Power Lunch spot/meal?

I’ll cook eggs with riced cauliflower and spinach.  I keep it simple and boring.

7:00 PM -  Preparing to either teach the 7:30pm class or work the front desk.

11:00 PM -  Asleep or out socializing.  Depends on what I have the following morning.

What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?

Coffee and Water.  2-3 coffees and a gallon of water

Everything.  Except Heroin.

Where do you enjoy getting lost?

In my mind.
