Amy Duncan: Founder & CEO, Mowellens

My NativeAdVert:

Amy Duncan is Founder & CEO of Mowellens, a conscious CBD wellness community on a mission to inspire you to live your best life with simple, clean, plant-based products.

My Goal of the Day: Make forward progress.

My Thought of the Day: You can do anything you put your mind to. Step into all that you are.

My Action of the Day: Create, sell, distribute, and analyze – I divide my days up in this way to make sure I manage my time effectively.

My Pic of the Day:

A Day in My Life:

What do you love most about Your City?

I just recently moved to West Hollywood and I’m in love with the energy and walkability. It’s invigorating and inspires me to move, especially on long work days. My environment is critical to my mental health and happiness. I choose to walk a mile for a meeting, coffee, lunch rather drive. When I don’t have to get in my car for everything it changes my quality of life.

Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?

When I lived in Laguna Beach my favorite breakfast meal was 2 poached eggs on sourdough at Zinc Café. Now that I live in West Hollywood I’m still figuring out my spots. I like the Butcher, the Baker, and the Cappuccino Maker, Zinque, and Verve Coffee Roasters but I’m still narrowing in on my favorite meal at each one.

What are you doing at:

6:00 AM – Just starting my day. My morning habits include meditating for 10-15 minutes using the Insight Timer app and writing three things I’m grateful for in my gratitude journal. These practices have changed the way I live. After nearly a year of my gratitude journal practice I can look back and see my mindset shifting and seeing myself, others, and the world around me differently. I highly recommend this practice and it’s very easy to implement. After that I’m either making a pour over coffee in my Chemex or prepping to head out the door for 7am Soul Cycle.

10:00 AM – I divide my day up into four categories in order to be effective at managing my time – create, sell, distribute, and analysis. At 10am I’m still in create mode…. writing, reading, and bringing content to life. Sometimes that also includes putting together copy for our email campaigns to be created or planning out content for the next week. It could also be looking at events, targets, and media outlets to create our strategy for brand awareness and marketing. My mind is fresh in the early/mid-morning hours so I’m able to create. Once I swing into more of a business mode mindset then it’s challenging to get back into create or creative mode. So, dedicating 9-11am for this makes sense for me.

12:00 PM - Favorite Lunch spot/meal?

I’m right in the heart of sell mode from 11-2pm and schedule meetings heavily during these hours. Fueling my body with plant based whole nutrient dense foods is a non-negotiable for me, so as not to be become depleted and mentally fatigued. I recently ate at Honey Hi and the food was absolutely delicious. If I’m in West Hollywood at this time Tocaya is my go to. If I’ve been inside for the morning due to office hours or phone meetings then I make an effort to get outside for a walk, fresh air, and a connection to nature. Regardless of whether I bring my lunch or need to grab a meal somewhere, I make it a requirement to get outside mid-day.

7:00 PM -  I’m either getting a workout in (if it didn’t happen in the morning), eating dinner or still working on growing Mowellens. I usually Facetime my husband to discuss our days and catch up a bit as well.

11:00 PM -  Normally by this time I’m in bed. I like to get amply rest. This means 7 hours of sleep or so. I find my mind runs at peak state, my emotions are balanced, and my productivity levels are optimal when I make sleep an equal priority in my life.

What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?

Coffee with Mowellens CBD and matcha are my lifesavers. I’m not addicted to them but I really enjoy the flavor profiles of both beverages.

Most used App/Favorite Instagram Account?

I seem to be navigating and on the move often so my most used app is probably Google Maps. Haha. My favorite Instagram accounts are @shutthekaleup & @coffeedosecm. Jeanette Ogden and Jeni Caestro (owner of Coffee Dose) were extremely impactful in the early acceleration and growth of Mowellens. Jeanette is so raw and real and funny! Jeni is a branding and marketing wizard and I get so excited to see her new provocative and eye catching merchandise, coffee products, and new ventures. Both amazing women in business and life that I look up to.

What should everyone try at least once?

CBD – Cannabidiol, the phytocannabinoid, in our case derived from hemp. Plant nutrients and plant distillation are a huge passion of mine. We have an endocannabinoid system in our bodies regulating and playing a strong part in the endocrine, digestive, immune systems and in turn impacting hormones, mental clarity, and overall homeostasis or balance. We produce endocannabinoids naturally – anandamide and 2AG. When we introduce CBD into our bodies it’s not the end all be all of health and wellness but it can surely be a catalyst in your wellness routine and kickstart some other healthy habits while making a tremendous impact on you itself. Whether it’s overall stresses of life, social awkwardness, unsettling thoughts and feelings, or the inability to relax CBD is the perfect thing to try as a first step.

Where do you enjoy getting lost?

The forest. Nature is my recharge. There is something about not having a phone in my hand navigating Google Maps. In the forest, I am free to soak in all the plant goodness, the stillness, and the sounds of the earth.
