Jeanne Marie Spicuzza: Award-winning author, performer and producer, actress, director, poet, painter, herbalist, & Founder, Seasons & a Muse

Jeanne Marie Spicuzza is a badass. She’s an internationally celebrated, award-winning author, performer and producer, actress, director, poet, painter and herbalist, the founder of Seasons & a Muse, the first women-run arts and entertainment corporate conglomerate. A member of the Alliance of Women Directors, Cinefemme, and Film Fatales, Jeanne Marie holds a B.A. in philosophy and psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. While working on her M.A. in philosophy, she studied acting in London and Los Angeles, and art history in Italy, Germany, Greece and Holland.

Nominee, finalist and winner of various awards, including the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting, the Vatican Division of Arts and Culture Honorarium, the Golden Headset Award, the National Organization for Women “Woman of the Year,” the Pushcart Prize and the Shepherd Express Best Performance Artist of the Year, Jeanne Marie is published in A Gathering of Tribes, Blue Fifth Review, The Nervous Breakdown and others. Her short films have screened at Portobello Film Festival, Wisconsin Film Festival and at Women in the Director’s Chair. Her VDKUF award-winning feature thriller "The Scarapist"™ screened at festivals, including a world premiere at LA Femme Film Festival, and at the Berlinale European Film Market. After its limited release in Landmark Theatres, "The Scarapist"™ is now available On Demand. An audio segment of her screenplay “Breath of God: The True Story of Hildegard von Bingen” is on permanent exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum as part of Judy Chicago’s historical feminist installation, “The Dinner Party.” Jeanne Marie, to date, remains the first and only screenwriter in history to achieve museum showcase of a screenplay segment in perpetuity. Jeanne Marie is currently in post-production of her second full-length motion picture, “Night Rain,” a thriller that she wrote, co-directed, produces and stars in, which is slated for release in 2019. She is in active development of two additional motion picture projects, “Making Angels” and “Breath of God,” and is working on three new screenplays.

My Goal of the Day: Perfect question! I’m actually doing it right now. Pampering myself after a long day of development on one project and post-production of another. Sitting with my feet up, and stilettos on.

My Thought of Day: What’s good for each of us is good for all of us. Let’s work together!

My Action of the Day: Agreed to participate in a panel of women motion picture producers at Columbia College. Exciting! Love working with my fellow sisters in cinema and encouraging eager young people!

What do you love most about Your City?

Opportunities exist everywhere to be discerned and devoured like good food. The weather is sublime and the people are outgoing and friendly. My favorite haunts are the Hollywood Bowl, Hollywood Forever Cemetery, the Egyptian Theatre, Mulholland Drive, the Ingelwood Oil Field and Zuma Beach.

Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?

The breakfast buffet at Smeraldi’s in the historic Biltmore Hotel is top drawer. I love scramblers, grains, something high in protein, low in sugars. A little hummus with onion and artichoke. Staff is absolutely glorious. A walk around Pershing Square afterwards highly recommended.

What are you doing at:

6:00 AM –  sleeping and, hopefully, dreaming

10:00 AM – I’m either doing a face treatment, or making phone calls and checking emails– in bed.

12:00 PM – Favorite Lunch spot/meal?

Real Food Daily, for a great plant-based, organic macrobiotic delight, a basic two with seitan, potatoes and salad –– ahmaaazing!

7:00 PM – winding down from a long day of business management, commencing acting sessions and honing my craft, starting a late meeting, finishing a shoot, or in the post-production lab. Late-night comedy, suspense or film noir to follow.

11:00 PM – writing, writing, writing; people are sleeping, the collective unconscious is wakening!

What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?

Nourishing herbals infusions of comfrey leaf, linden flower or nettle, 8-12 ounces, or horsetail tea, are high-powered vitamin elixir gold. Yum.

Most used App/Favorite Instagram Account?

I use Facebook, Twitter and Instagram a lot, and Yahoo and Google Mail, Waze if I’m out and about. My favorite Instagram is @jeannemariespicuzza. It’s eclectic. And @besamecosmetics, @nightrainmovie corporate sponsor. Like a glamorous history lesson!

What should everyone try at least once?

Understanding.

Where do you enjoy getting lost?

Los Angeles, south of Jefferson. And Venice and Rome, Italy. Forever.

My Deed of the Day: Working towards picture lock on upcoming motion picture “Night Rain” with my editor and co-director Synthian Sharp.

My Tip of the Day: When you work with Tommy Wiseau, wear comfortable shoes!
